We are fortunate to live in one of the most desirable cities in the United States. Here is a small compilation of why.
1. Pikes Place Market
There are more than 200 vendors and specialty shops. It is Seattle's number 1 tourist destination for a reason.
2. Ferry Riding
You are able to just jump on a ferry, over 75,000 residents start their day by boarding a boat. That is more people than a full game at Century Link Field.
3. We LOVE Sports
Seattle has proven to have the best fans in the country. We support our baseball, football and soccer team rain or shine.
4. The Mountain Views
No matter if you were born here or just moved into town, you will find yourself amazed by the beautiful mountain views year round.
5. The Coffee
Seattle has the most shops per capita in the United States. There will never be a shortage on caffeine here.
6. The Waterways
Although the bridges may cause traffic, while you are sitting and waiting to move you will be surrounded by beautiful bodies of water.
7. Cruise Ships
Seattle has it all including cruise ships! From May through September beware there will be a sea of people in Hawaiian shirts wading through the city.
8. Chef Douglas is a common name
The head chef of Dahlia Lounge, Palace Kitchen and many more Tom Douglas is a celebrity around here.
9. The town for Hipsters
You will see a plethora of 20 year old's wearing nothing but thrift shop clothes hanging around coffee shops and bars.
10. Not all Grunge
Seattle is very diverse and represents all different types. After all the hip hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are from here!
11. We Like the Rain and Miss it When It's Gone
Although we complain year round about how it always rains, in the off season when we have a wave of heat we all find ourselves praying for the rain to come give us a break. We get used to the rainy season and it is what makes our city so green.
12. No Humidity
When the summer time comes around it is rarely humid or muggy which makes for a great comfortable summer!
13. Seattle Art Museum
Here in Seattle we call it SAM. In the heart of downtown there is a major art museum with big names and a sculpture with a working Hammerman that brings people in.
14. We have Pride
Just last year we legalized gay marriage which makes our Pride Parade especially crazy.
15. Chicken Coops
Even though it is a city, it is not out of the norm to drive down the street and see a chicken coop in someones front or back yard. There is something nice about picking your own fresh eggs for breakfast.
16. The Viaduct is Soon to be History
The viaduct has been an earthquake hazard for years and with the largest tunnel boring machine in the world burrowing under the Alaskan way, it will be gone before we know it.
17. Marijuana is more legal than not.
Along with gay marriage, marijuana was also legalized this past November. There are rules to this law such as not being able to smoke in public, but it doesn't mean you aren't allowed to partake. Not to mention it is home of the largest rally called Hempfest.
18. High on Technology
Seattle is home to major corporations such as Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing. This defines us as a highly technological town.
19. Radio Stations
There are many radio stations in the area that cover everything from country, R&B, to indie.
20. Nerds are Cool Here
Here in Seattle, the bigger the nerd you are the better. We make it all possible with Penny Arcade Expo, and Science Fiction Museum. Seattle is ranked number 3 nerdiest city in America and we are proud of it.
21. Sneaky Hidden Parks
There are so many little pocket parks and gardens hidden within the city. You can sneak away and enjoy the scenery and feel like you are the only one who knows about that amazing spot.
22. The Seattle Dog
We do hot dogs differently here from the cream cheese to the grilled onions. Hot dog vendors know exactly where to be for the best 2 am rush.
23. Dick's Burgers
Dick's is famous for a retro late night burger, or even a quick early lunch! The company started in 1954 and it hasn't changed one bit, it is still equally as loved.
24. Seafood
We can't seem to get enough of our pacific oysters, salmon and mussels.
25. Dogs and Cats are People too
We are very big on being animal friendly. There are a ton of dog parks and dog friendly cafes here. It is not uncommon to see someone carrying around their animal at the store.
26. City Shuts Down at a Snowflake
Even though we are used to the rain all year round, Seattle is not made for snow. The hills and inexperienced drivers make winter a dangerous place however it is a great time for a Netflix marathon.
27. Hardcore Cyclists
I think we can all say that there are bicyclists everywhere! Rain or shine they are dedicated to stay active.
28. "Order Another Round!" becomes a common term
We love our craft beer and juicy Washington Wines. Also, Woodinville area is a 30 minute drive and it is home to over 100 wineries.
29. Cupcakes and Milkshakes
We prefer deserts that you can hold or simply drink of a straw. Check out Cupcake Royal and Trophy for cupcakes.
30. Close to Everything
Even if you live in the middle of the city you can drive 30 minutes in any direction and end up in a place like this.
